Insurance Costs - In spite of the fact that 70% of accidents involving motorcycles and 3rd parties are not the motorcyclist's fault, the cost of 3rd party motorcycle insurance is significantly higher than for those road-users that cause the accidents.
Theft - Motorcycle theft hits all of us in the form of increased insurance premiums. If you are unable to obtain theft cover, it may cost you your bike.
Anti-motorcycle Legislation - Motorcycles are currently the target for a large amount of European legislation, which will provide no benefit, but will significantly increase purchase and running costs, restrict the type of motorcycles that can be ridden, and prevent DIY maintenance or modification.
Discrimination - "We don't serve motorcyclists." "We don't have facilities for motorcycles." "It's your own fault for riding a bike." "If you don't get out of my way, I'm going to run you over". There are very few motorcyclists who have not experienced discrimination at some time. We are not second class citizens, and will not be treated as such.
Road hazards - Many of the problems of riding a motorcycle are due to congestion, poor road layout and poor road maintenance. This is particularly true around town, and is a direct result of central and local government policy.
Each of these issues effects you to some degree. The good news is that the Motorcycle Action Group is working hard on these, and many other, issues. And we are making significant progress. The bad news is that this takes time and money. The least you can do to help us represent your interests is to join us. This will cost you £20 per year (about 38p a week), which you can easilly recoup by visiting one of the many motorcycle and clothing dealers who offer MAG discounts.
